Aporosa Davelevu, the fourth accused in the ongoing trial related to the transportation of 4.15 tonnes of methamphetamine, testified today at the Lautoka High Court. In his statements, Davelevu described his deportation from Australia on October 10, 2017, due to unresolved driving charges. He claimed to have had several encounters with co-accused Justin Ho at a nightclub.
Notably, on December 29, 2023, Davelevu and a cousin visited Ho’s barbershop in Denarau, where Ho allegedly asked him if he could drive a manual truck to the Motorex warehouse. Davelevu claims he received FJD $200 from co-accused Louie Logaivau, who purportedly directed the truck’s operations at the warehouse.
The trial’s proceedings serve as a significant part of Fiji’s legal efforts to combat widespread drug trafficking. Davelevu’s participation follows earlier testimonies from other key witnesses exposing the organized nature of the alleged drug operation, reinforcing the legal system’s commitment to accountability and community safety. Previous reports highlight that multiple witnesses have bravely come forward, reflecting a community united against drug-related offenses and instilling hope for a safer future.
As the trial continues, the focus remains on dismantling the intricate networks of drug trafficking and fostering an environment where public safety is prioritized. With every testimony, the judicial process is being seen as a critical pathway toward justice and accountability within the community. The ongoing visibility of the judiciary and law enforcement in combating these serious issues represents a positive step toward achieving long-term improvement in public safety and trust in the legal process.
