The Suva Touch Rugby Association is gearing up to host its inaugural Business House Festival on June 28, taking place at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This event is set to unfold over two Saturdays, with the second round following on July 5 at Albert Park.
According to association president Danielle Keli, this marks a significant first for the Suva Touch organization, which typically has such events managed by its parent body. The festival is aimed at generating funds to support Suva Touch teams participating in the upcoming Pacific Cup in New Zealand this November. Keli revealed that four teams in various categories, including men’s open, women’s open, men’s 35s, and mixed masters 30s, are preparing for this competition.
The Business House Festival seeks to attract around 24 participating teams, and interest already surpasses that target. The introduction of a mixed category is a notable highlight of this year’s festival, aimed at promoting inclusiveness and wellness in the workplace.
Due to ground availability and time constraints, the games will now be held only on weekends, although the organizers remain open to the possibility of incorporating weekday matches in the future.
Keli emphasized the essence of touch rugby as a non-contact, safe, and family-friendly sport, welcoming players of all ages, sizes, and genders. Additionally, she hopes the festival will foster networking opportunities among participants.
This event aligns with the growing efforts across Fiji’s sporting community to engage various demographics and further the development of sports. The Suva Touch Association’s commitment to inclusivity and fun in sports illustrates how such initiatives can strengthen community bonds and promote active lifestyles while preparing teams for competitive success on an international stage.
