Suspended DPP Demands Tribunal Report from President

Christopher Pryde, the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, has formally requested a copy of the Tribunal Report regarding allegations of misbehavior against him from President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. In his correspondence, Pryde noted that he was informed the report was delivered to the President on December 23, 2024. After seeking the report from the Tribunal, he received guidance to directly contact the President’s office for further action.

In his letter, Pryde emphasized the constitutional provisions that mandate the publication of the report, stating that it is not subject to discretion. He referenced specific sections of the Constitution, asserting that if the report indicates insufficient evidence of misconduct, then his suspension should be lifted, allowing him to return to his role as the DPP.

Pryde highlighted the time elapsed since his suspension in April 2023, which has created significant financial strain for him due to the suspension of his salary. He underscored the urgency of resolving this situation, particularly given that the Tribunal has completed its investigation. Thus, he has requested the President to provide him with (i) the verdict of the report, (ii) a copy for publication, and (iii) the reinstatement of his salary and full entitlements if no substantial evidence is found against him.

This situation not only reflects the complexities of legal and governmental processes but also underscores the importance of transparency and adherence to constitutional mandates. As the case progresses, there is hope that a resolution will be reached that upholds justice and fairness for all parties involved.
