Strong Wind and Coastal Inundation Warnings in Effect for Fiji as Southeast Winds Persist

Weather Alert
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi

Time to grab your windbreakers, folks, because it’s officially a blustery day in paradise! As of 5:30 am this lovely Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025, we’ve got a strong wind warning in effect for our coastal amigos in the eastern and southern stretches of Viti Levu (hey Coral Coast, Navua, Suva, Korovou, and Rakiraki, we’re looking at you!). This goes for the charming provinces of Southern Bua and Cakaudrove as well, along with our friends in Kadavu, the Yasawas, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups.

Not to rain on your parade, but a coastal inundation warning has also been issued for these same areas. So, if you were planning on an underwater promenade, it might be best to hold off!

What’s causing all this commotion, you ask? Just a good ol’ strong southeast wind flow blowing through – think of it as Mother Nature’s hair dryer on full blast. But that’s not all, folks! A pesky trough of low pressure is expected to waltz into our lives starting tomorrow.

So, here’s the scoop for the rest of today:

If you’re hanging out around southern Viti Levu (Natadola, Vatukarasa, Coral Coast, Navua, Suva) and surrounding islands, get ready for some high tide runway on the beaches! You can also look forward to those strong southeast winds gusting up to 46 km/hr, as they sweep through Sigatoka, Coral Coast, Navua, Suva, Nausori, Korovou, Rakiraki, and the rest of the fabulous coastal areas. Other spots will enjoy moderate to fresh southeast winds that like to shake things up, creating some rather rough seas.

Expect to see some cloudy periods laced with showers – like nature’s way of giving you a little surprise spritz. And for those night owls, cool breezes are in store, perfect for snuggling into your cozy blankets.

Now, for the Thursday forecast:

You guessed it, more sea flooding during high tides for the same southern coastlines! We’re talking those wild southeast winds again, reaching up to 46 km/hr – so don’t be surprised if your hat tries to take off in the wind! Occasional showers will saunter through the Northern Division, Yasawa group, Navua, Suva, and a few other charming locales while the rest of the islands stay mostly cloudy with some afternoon or evening rain.

And remember, folks, cool nights are to be expected, so if you’re planning a midnight snack run, dress accordingly!

For specific updates:

– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Buckle up for those strong southeast winds and some showers. Cool on the nights.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Expect the winds to keep up their enthusiastic pace. Isolated showers may pop in just to keep things interesting.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Fine weather on the table, but watch out for the possible isolated showers.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Hold on to your hats! Strong winds and occasional showers are on the menu.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: Fine weather with some friendly isolated showers. Cool evenings to boot.

So there you have it! Enjoy our beautiful islands, but don’t forget to secure your belongings – you never know when a gust of wind might just whisk them away!
