A ‘Stop Work Order’ is currently in place for the Great Han Residential Development located on Princess Road. The Department of Environment has brought attention to this matter.
On September 5, 2024, the department became aware of the Suva City Council’s decision to lift the ‘Order’ on the development. In response, the Department of Environment initiated an investigation and engaged with the involved parties to ascertain whether the lifting of the stop work order was consistent with the department’s stance.
The investigation revealed that Great Han had not adhered to the Suva City Council’s decision, which stipulated that the development could only resume if it fulfilled the requirements set by the Department of Environment following its earlier decline decision.
Consequently, the Department of Environment followed the necessary procedures and issued a stop work order on September 24, in accordance with Section 43 of the Environment Management Act 2005.
