The Solomon Islands will field two teams for the upcoming Melanesian Spearhead Group Prime Minister’s Cup, taking place in Honiara from December 9 to December 12. This was announced during the tournament’s official draw at the National Stadium in Honiara last weekend.

The competition this year will include teams from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Caledonia, and Vanuatu, along with the host country, the Solomon Islands. The Solomon Islands will participate with both their senior national team and an Under-23 side, both of which will compete in Group A, sharing the group with Papua New Guinea. Group B will consist of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Vanuatu.

The tournament will kick off with the Solomon Islands teams facing each other in their opening Group A match at Lawson Tama Stadium on December 9. Meanwhile, Vanuatu will go up against New Caledonia in the first match of Group B on the same day. Some matches will also be held at the newly constructed National Stadium in Honiara, where the Solomon Islands aim to defend their title.

This tournament presents a great opportunity for the younger players on the Under-23 team to gain valuable experience and develop their skills while competing at a high level. With two teams in the mix, the Solomon Islands can showcase their football talent and bring excitement to local fans. The blend of youth and experience may just pave the way for a strong performance and possible success in the tournament.
