The Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa recently donated $20,000 to Project Bula Mai, demonstrating its commitment to corporate social responsibility. The cheque handover took place on December 2, furthering the resort’s ongoing support of local initiatives.

Last weekend, Project Bula Mai organized a Style Fiji fashion show featuring nine local designers, with proceeds from the event adding to the generous donation. All funds raised will benefit the Fiji Cancer Society, the designated charity for Style Fiji this year.

Vincent Macquet, the area general manager of the resort, expressed pride in their long-standing association with Style Fiji, highlighting the remarkable work the organization has accomplished over the years. He noted that Sofitel Fiji not only sponsored the event but also increased their financial support with this substantial donation aimed at aiding cancer-related programs in Fiji.

Marlene Vuniwaqa, co-founder of Project Bula Mai, acknowledged Sofitel’s consistent growth in support and emphasized their reliance on corporate goodwill, as cash sponsorships can be challenging to secure. She expressed gratitude for Sofitel’s commitment to giving directly to the Fiji Cancer Society without any deduction.

The collaboration represents a positive effort by local businesses and organizations to address important health issues within Fiji’s communities. With over 380 attendees at the fashion show, the event has proven to be a creative way to harness fashion and entertainment for philanthropic purposes.

This initiative not only shines a light on the importance of local support for health charities but also encourages other corporations to follow suit, fostering a culture of community engagement and collective action for the greater good.

Overall, this partnership signals hope and progress in the ongoing battle against cancer in the region, reinforcing the notion that combined efforts can lead to meaningful change.
