Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa has made a generous contribution of $20,000 to Project Bula Mai, reinforcing its commitment to corporate social responsibility. The official presentation of the cheque took place at the resort on December 2.

This contribution comes on the heels of a successful fashion event, the Style Fiji fashion show, which featured nine talented local designers. Proceeds from this exciting show will be combined with Sofitel’s donation and subsequently handed over to the Fiji Cancer Society, the chosen charity for Style Fiji.

Vincent Macquet, the area general manager, highlighted the long-standing partnership between Sofitel and Style Fiji. He praised the efforts of the Style Fiji team over the years, emphasizing the importance of collaborating with grassroots organizations in Fiji to achieve greater goals. “This year, not only did we sponsor the event behind the scenes at the cost level, but we also sponsored an additional $20,000 towards the Fiji Cancer Society,” he noted, reflecting on the resort’s ongoing commitment to supporting significant initiatives in the community.

Marlene Vuniwaqa, co-founder of Project Bula Mai, acknowledged the increasing support from Sofitel, noting that this is their third consecutive year working with the Fiji Cancer Society. She emphasized the combination of fashion and entertainment as a means of fundraising, recognizing the importance of community support during the event, which saw an attendance of approximately 380 people.

This donation, described as a vital contribution, underscores the challenges in securing cash sponsorships for charitable events. According to Vuniwaqa, while Sofitel stands out as a crucial supporter, the funds will go directly to the Fiji Cancer Society, ensuring their impact is maximized.

Overall, this partnership exemplifies how businesses can play a pivotal role in community support and highlights the positive ripple effects of corporate contributions. Such initiatives not only aid essential charities but also foster a deeper connection between local businesses and the communities they serve.

In a world that often highlights struggles, this story stands as a testament to the goodness and collective effort of businesses and organizations working together for a brighter, hopeful future.
