Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa recently demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility by donating $20,000 to Project Bula Mai. The cheque handover took place on December 2 at the resort, reflecting ongoing support for local initiatives.
Project Bula Mai organized a Style Fiji fashion show the previous weekend, showcasing the works of nine local designers. The proceeds from this event will be combined with Sofitel’s contribution and donated to the Fiji Cancer Society, which has been the chosen charity for Style Fiji for the past three years.
Vincent Macquet, the area general manager of Sofitel, emphasized the resort’s long-standing partnership with Style Fiji. He noted, “Over the years, the team at Style Fiji has done exceptional work, making it only natural for us to join forces with grassroots organizations in Fiji to elevate important initiatives.” This year, in addition to supporting the event with behind-the-scenes sponsorship, the resort earmarked an additional $20,000 for the Fiji Cancer Society.
Marlene Vuniwaqa, co-founder of Project Bula Mai, acknowledged the increasing support from Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa over the years. She mentioned that while the fashion and entertainment-focused event draws attendees — with around 380 people present this year — securing financial backing can be challenging. “Sofitel is probably the only one that will give us cash,” she said, assuring that their generous donation will go directly to the Fiji Cancer Society.
This partnership exemplifies the positive impact business collaboration can have on community welfare, reinforcing the importance of corporate involvement in social causes. Through their continued support, Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa and Project Bula Mai are making strides to improve lives and foster hope within their community.
Summary: Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa has contributed $20,000 to Project Bula Mai, which organized a fashion show benefiting the Fiji Cancer Society. This collaboration illustrates the impact of corporate sponsorship in supporting local charities and enhancing community welfare.
