Six individuals linked to a significant drug seizure at Vatia Wharf are scheduled to appear in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court, where the prosecution will be led by John Rabuku, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions. The police reported that, in coordination with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), four Ecuadorian nationals are facing serious charges. Each has been charged with one count of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs, one count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs, and one count of Unlawful Entry into Fiji, as stipulated under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 2003.

In addition, a 26-year-old man from Veisaru in Ba has been charged with one count each of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs, two counts of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs, and one count of Serious Assault. Another man, also from Veisaru and aged 39, faces charges of one count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs and one count of Serious Assault.

The charges stem from a coordinated police operation at Vatia Wharf, where law enforcement intercepted individuals suspected of being involved in the transportation of illicit substances. As the proceedings unfold at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court, which is anticipated to be tightly monitored with a heavy police presence in the area, the State will formally present its case through the ODPP.

Authorities indicated that investigations are ongoing, and additional charges may emerge as the situation develops. This proactive approach by police underscores their commitment to combatting drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety.
