Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:30pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026

Buckle up, folks! A severe thunderstorm warning is still in effect for Macuata, northern Bua, and the interior and northeastern parts of Viti Levu (that’s the Nadi-Lautoka-Ba route, through Rakiraki to Korovou, for those who love their landmarks).

Situation: A fine southeast breeze is wafting through the Fiji group, perfect for flying kites—or dodging downpours. A trough of low pressure is expected to throw a mini tantrum to the north on Monday.

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: Expect cloudy skies peppered with showers over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Naitasiri-Tailevu North, Ra-Rakiraki, Cakaudrove, southern Bua province, Taveuni, and those cozy nearby islands. For Kadavu and its neighbors, clouds will hang around along with brief showers—just enough to remind you to keep the umbrella handy. The fine folks in Lau and Lomaiviti will see some cloudy periods with slightly dampened spirits from those pesky brief showers.

Elsewhere, it’s mostly nice, except for the occasional afternoon or evening shower—definitely a “choose your adventure” kind of day. And yes, isolated thunderstorms are making their rounds, especially in the interior and the eastern and northern parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, so keep an eye on your favorite low-lying spots!

Expect moderate southeast winds and seas—perfect for a leisurely splash.

Outlook for Monday: The forecast stays similar with cloudy patches and brief showers in all your scenic spots. That means it’s another chance for localized heavy falls to flash-flood those infamous spots. Winds will shake things up a bit, starting from the south and shifting to the northwest by the end of the day. Sea conditions will remain moderate—no need for life jackets just yet!
