Sale Sharks, an English Premiership rugby club, has announced the recruitment of Ponipate Loganimasi, a winger from Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and the FIJI Water Flying Fijians. The 27-year-old has signed a two-year contract that will commence in the 2026/27 season.

Loganimasi arrives at Sale after a distinguished performance at the 2024 Summer Olympics, where he played a pivotal role in earning a silver medal with the Fiji men’s 7s team before transitioning to the 15-a-side format. He made an indelible mark on the international scene by scoring two crucial tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan in September last year, further securing seven additional Test caps.

At the club level, Loganimasi had a notable start to his career in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific, notching six tries in 12 appearances during his inaugural season with the Drua. This upcoming move represents his first venture outside of Fiji, and he expresses enthusiasm about the opportunity to challenge himself in a new competitive environment.

In addition to his excitement about the move, Loganimasi looks forward to collaborating with accomplished England playmaker George Ford, describing the prospect of playing alongside him as “brilliant.”

Sharks Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson praised Loganimasi, identifying him as the epitome of a Flying Fijian, emphasizing attributes such as speed, aerial presence, and attacking prowess. This signing adds to Sale’s roster, following the acquisition of former Fiji captain Waisea Nayacalevu, whose stint was marred by injuries.

Loganimasi’s signing highlights the increasing demand for Fijian talent in the northern hemisphere, and it signifies a promising future, not only for him but also for the continued recognition of Fijian players in international rugby. With a commitment to honing his skills in a new arena, Loganimasi’s journey in the Premiership is one to watch closely as he aims to make his mark on the game.
