The Judicial Services Commission (JSC) is scheduled to convene tomorrow to discuss key issues regarding Acting FICAC Commissioner Lavi Rokoika. Recent speculation suggested that the commission has already made recommendations regarding her future to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, but there has been no official confirmation from either the JSC or the President’s Office regarding this matter.

Further clouding the situation, the outcomes of a meeting last week between Chief Justice Salesi Temo, who chairs the JSC, and President Ratu Naiqama remain undisclosed. The commission had held an emergency meeting on February 27, which included consultations with the Attorney-General to explore these pressing matters.

This conversation comes on the heels of a High Court ruling that deemed the Prime Minister’s advice and the President’s decision to revoke Barbara Malimali’s appointment on June 2, 2025, as unlawful and beyond the powers granted. In light of this judgment, the JSC has asserted its intention to form independent recommendations for the President regarding the ruling’s implications.

The ongoing deliberations signal a pivotal moment for the JSC and the FICAC, with the outcomes of these discussions likely to shape the landscape of leadership within the commission and the broader judicial system. As the anticipated meeting approaches, all eyes will be on the JSC’s decisions, which could reinforce the integrity and independence of judicial appointments in the country.
