The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF) have formed a significant four-year partnership with the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) to enhance road safety in Fiji. This collaboration aims to lower road accidents and fatalities by encouraging traffic regulation compliance among Fijians.
LTA CEO Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized the partnership’s pivotal role in fostering a culture of road safety, which is crucial for the well-being of all road users in the country. By harnessing the influence of prominent rugby players and the extensive platform of FRU, this initiative strives to cultivate awareness and responsibility regarding road safety.
Rokosawa stated, “This innovative partnership recognizes the critical role of sports, particularly rugby, in shaping attitudes and behaviors in Fiji.” He pointed out that rugby players, respected throughout the nation, are ideally positioned to advocate for responsible road behavior.
ACCF executive chairman Maritino Nemani echoed this sentiment, highlighting the organizations’ unified vision to prioritize road safety. Together, they aim to mitigate accidents and foster a sense of care and accountability among road users.
FRU General Manager Avnil Pratap expressed pride in supporting this vital initiative, underscoring the union’s dedication to benefiting Fijians both on and off the field. He remarked that rugby players are role models, whose impactful voices can motivate communities to embrace safer road practices.
Additionally, this collaboration is in line with LTA’s broader strategy of partnering with corporate entities that share the vision of creating safer roads for all. These alliances are particularly important as Fiji faces ongoing challenges related to reckless driving and pedestrian safety.
This partnership represents a hopeful step towards enhancing road safety in Fiji, showing how sports can play a vital role in addressing societal issues. The engagement of rugby players as advocates provides an inspiring model for communities to prioritize safety, ultimately leading to a more responsible and aware society.
Overall, this initiative reflects a proactive approach to addressing road safety concerns, combining the influence of sports with a commitment to community well-being.
