The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has announced the release of young centre Waqa Nalaga, also known as Epeli Waqaicece. The 21-year-old joined the Drua last year following his representation of the Fiji U20 team and a period playing in New Zealand. Nalaga is the son of former Flying Fijians winger Kavekini Nalaga and is related to ex-national player Napolioni Nalaga.

Recently, Nalaga was among four centres selected for the upcoming 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season. In a brief statement, the Drua confirmed his departure and emphasized that they adhered to proper protocols during the process. They also indicated that they would not provide any further details regarding the matter.

While this news may seem disappointing for fans of Nalaga and the team, it opens up new opportunities for the young athlete. This step could lead him to other clubs or even a chance to further develop his skills, potentially improving his prospects in the future. As he navigates this transition, there’s a hopeful outlook that he will find a new platform where he can showcase his talents and contribute significantly to the sport.
