Fiji’s football star Roy Krishna has made a significant move by signing with Bula FC, motivated primarily by a desire to be closer to his family. This transition marks his involvement in Oceania’s first-ever professional football league, a milestone for the region.

Krishna’s career has taken him worldwide, journeying through New Zealand, Australia, and India, where he was sought after by several top clubs willing to invest heavily for his talents. However, the sacrifices he made along the way, particularly in terms of family time, have been substantial. The chance to return home and play for Bula FC presents an invaluable opportunity for the 38-year-old to reconnect with his roots while continuing to pursue his passion for the sport.

“My motivation was probably coming home; being around my family was the biggest factor,” Krishna shared, emphasizing the personal significance of his decision. The comfort of home, along with engaging discussions with the coach about fitting into the team’s dynamic, made this transition feel seamless for him.

In his initial training sessions with Bula FC, Krishna noted the rigorous nature of their pre-season preparation. The players are adapting to the demands of professional football, balancing hard work with the excitement of the upcoming competition. “It’s very exciting but tough training. The boys are struggling with the running and conditioning, but it’s going to pay off once the season starts,” he remarked.

Bula FC is set to kick off their OFC Pro League campaign against Vanuatu FC on January 23, which marks the inaugural match of this historic league at Eden Park, Auckland. As part of this new chapter, Krishna will proudly wear the number 21 jersey, representing both his legacy and the enthusiasm around this groundbreaking opportunity for Pacific football. This move not only enhances his career but also serves as an inspiring example of balancing professional ambitions with family values.
