Repeka Koroi and Veronika Rabuliwaisavu, both students from Vudibasoga Catholic School in Seaqaqa, Macuata, have been granted full scholarships by Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) High School to continue their education, following their impressive results at the 2024 Tuckers Ice-Cream Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championships.
Koroi, hailing from Korovuli Village, clinched two gold medals in the Under-14 girls’ 800m and 1500m finals. Rabuliwaisavu, from Lomaloma Village, earned a gold medal in the Under-13 girls’ 400m final and a silver in the 200m final. The young athletes expressed gratitude toward their coach, Iosefo Apisai from Nasealevu Village, for his guidance and support throughout their training.
Coach Apisai shared his pride in seeing his students succeed and emphasized the significance of their performance in representing their school in the broader region. He credited the parents for entrusting their children’s care to the school, allowing them to excel both academically and athletically.
Repeka, who aspires to be a primary school teacher and was named the Year Eight dux of her school, dedicated her achievements to her father, Epeli Balawa. Veronika, at just 13 years old, is thrilled to be the first in her family to receive both a silver and a gold medal and is grateful for the scholarship opportunity.
