Pacific Specialists Healthcare Hospitals (PSH) in Nadi has established itself as a crucial healthcare facility in the Pacific region, particularly following its first successful open-heart surgeries in November 2023. This development has led to a notable increase in patient inquiries, further solidifying its reputation for advanced cardiac care, as noted by cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Sanjeev Khulbey.
Between February 23 and February 28, Dr. Khulbey and his skilled team carried out a number of open-heart surgeries, including a complex quadruple graft heart bypass on a 50-year-old patient from Nausori. This achievement marks a significant milestone, as it represents one of the first successful quadruple bypass surgeries performed in Fiji.
Reflecting on the challenges faced during the first quadruple bypass surgery conducted in January, where the patient declined blood transfusions due to religious beliefs, Dr. Khulbey emphasized the smoother execution of the recent surgery. This indicates a growing proficiency within the local medical team.
CEO Parvish Kumar highlighted that such medical advancements were made possible by the recent establishment of a multi-million-dollar cardiology department and operating theatre. This investment is transforming patient care by enabling timely treatments and enhancing patient confidence in receiving top-quality cardiac care locally.
PSH’s dedication to continuous healthcare improvement is evident through their ability to perform multiple surgeries in successive days. This accomplishment underscores their commitment to patient welfare, with many patients able to return home just five days after their procedures.
The emergence of PSH is reshaping the healthcare landscape in Fiji, positioning it as a leading healthcare provider and a possible hub for health tourism. This not only enhances local medical services but also significantly reduces treatment costs for patients, compared to seeking care overseas—an important factor for many residents of the Pacific Islands.
As PSH expands its surgical capabilities and solidifies its reputation, there is hope for improved healthcare accessibility in Fiji. The local community can feel reassured that essential medical procedures are now available at home, minimizing the necessity for costly international medical travel and allowing families to remain together during recovery.
