Despite the interruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Crystal Nivedita Shobha remained determined to succeed in her education. The 23-year-old from Nabua recently achieved a significant milestone by graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biology from the University of the South Pacific.
Crystal expressed that her graduation holds special significance since it follows a challenging period marked by the pandemic. She acknowledged the long journey and expressed her gratitude for the support she received along the way.
During her time at the university, she developed strong bonds within the Tongan community in Fiji and expressed appreciation for her friends who traveled to support her on her special day. Crystal recalled that her passion for science was nurtured by her high school teachers and peers, highlighting that biology intrigued her as it helped her understand the underlying reasons for various phenomena.
Though aware of the limited job prospects in science in Fiji, Crystal is currently working in her father’s business while actively seeking opportunities that align with her field of study. She remains optimistic and plans to pursue an MBA next year, looking forward to new challenges and the potential for personal growth.
Crystal’s perseverance, despite numerous obstacles, serves as an inspiration. She emphasizes the importance of support from family and friends to successfully navigate the challenges of university life.
