Heavy continuous rainfall has caused significant delays in the construction of the bypass road at the Semo slip site, leading the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to issue a public advisory. The persistent rain has hindered progress on the planned works, affecting the completion timeline for the bypass.

In light of the ongoing challenges, the FRA has confirmed that alternative access routes are still available through Nadiri and Ciri Road. It is important to note that these detours are limited to light vehicles only. To maintain accessibility, additional maintenance work is scheduled for tonight to ensure these temporary routes remain in good condition for motorists.

As congestion is expected in the area, drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays. Motorists traveling from Suva towards Lautoka, Nadi, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki are encouraged to utilize Kings Road as an alternative route. Both Nadiri and Ciri Road remain open for eligible vehicles.

The FRA also emphasizes the importance of caution when navigating the slip site, particularly due to the presence of pedestrians and commuters moving between vehicles in the vicinity. The authority is committed to closely monitoring the situation and adapting to changing weather conditions to keep the public informed about travel safety.

In a positive light, the proactive measures being taken by the FRA aim to ensure that despite the weather disruptions, commuters can still access their destinations safely.
