Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka held a productive meeting with key police officials yesterday afternoon as part of a series of introductory briefings in his capacity as the Minister Responsible for Police and Immigration. The gathering featured Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, Deputy Police Commissioner Sakeo Raikaci, alongside three other senior officers, with the primary goal of gaining insights into the operational and management dynamics of the Fiji Police Force.

In a statement to The Fiji Times, Prime Minister Rabuka highlighted the significance of these briefings. “It was my ‘familiarisation briefing’ from the Acting Commissioner and his Senior Management/Command team, similar to the one I will have with the Acting Director of Immigration and Senior Staff today,” he noted. He previously conducted a similar briefing with the Divisional Police Commander Western.

This important meeting was also attended by Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua, as well as permanent secretaries Mason Smith and Dr. Raijieli Taga from the Office of the Prime Minister, indicating a collaborative approach to governance and security matters.

This engagement underlines the government’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement in Fiji, fostering an environment of transparency and communication between the Ministry and the police force. Such initiatives are vital for building public trust and ensuring a safer society.

Overall, this meeting serves as a promising start to Prime Minister Rabuka’s tenure as the Minister Responsible for Police and Immigration, setting the stage for a constructive relationship with law enforcement agencies. By valuing open dialogue, there is the potential for significant reforms that could yield positive outcomes for the community.
