The Nausori Magistrate’s Court has decided to transfer an assault case involving 21-year-old Police Constable Apimeleki Vakarusabola Colamoto to the High Court in Suva. Colamoto faced charges of an act intended to cause grievous harm after an incident involving Vilikesa Bari on November 17 of this year.

During the court proceedings, Police Prosecutor Shelveen Sharma presented an application to move the case to the High Court, which was subsequently approved by the magistrate. As part of the bail conditions, Colamoto has been ordered to pay a $100 cash bail bond, provide two sureties, surrender his travel documents, comply with a departure prohibition, and ensure he does not commit any further offenses or attempt to interfere with state witnesses while out on bail.

Colamoto is scheduled to appear in the High Court on January 20, 2025, where he will receive case disclosures and enter a plea. Additionally, he has been allocated time to seek consultation with a Legal Aid lawyer.

This case highlights the legal process’s commitment to ensuring justice is served, while the opportunity for Colamoto to consult with a lawyer indicates a fair approach to the proceedings. As the legal journey unfolds, it will be essential to follow the case closely, providing the public with updates on the outcomes and implications for all parties involved.
