A suspect is now in police custody on charges related to the possession of illegal drugs. The individual was apprehended in a vehicle that was stopped at Nadonumai Roundabout during the evening hours. During this encounter, the suspect reportedly threatened one of the police officers present.
Assisted by the K-9 Unit, law enforcement officials discovered a clear plastic wrapper containing five dried branches and leaves, which are believed to be marijuana, inside the vehicle. A subsequent search at the suspect’s residence revealed a zip lock bag containing additional loose dried leaves, also suspected to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu has indicated that police have been making regular drug-related arrests and intend to maintain this proactive approach throughout the festive season. ACP Driu stated, “We are targeting anyone suspected of drug involvement. Our patrols will include checks on known drug spots and inspections of vehicles and vessels moving during this festive period.”
He further emphasized that the police have intensified their efforts in the ongoing battle against drugs during this time, implementing operational strategies and raising public awareness. Driu encouraged community members to aid the police in their efforts, stating, “We will continue to conduct surprise checks on vehicles and scrutinize any individuals we find suspicious.”
The suspect remains in custody at Lami Police Station as investigations continue.
