A suspect is in police custody following an incident last night at the Nadonumai roundabout, where he was apprehended for allegedly possessing illegal drugs. During the arrest, the suspect reportedly threatened a police officer.

Assisted by the K-9 Unit, authorities discovered a clear plastic wrapper and zip lock bags containing branches and leaves believed to be marijuana. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu emphasized that drug arrests are being conducted daily.

In light of the upcoming festive season, the Fiji Police Force plans to intensify their efforts to combat the transportation and distribution of illicit drugs throughout the country.

“We are targeting everyone suspected of drug involvement. Our checks will focus on known drug hotspots and any vehicles or vessels that may be active during this festive period,” Driu stated. He outlined plans for surprise stop checks on vehicles and urged the public to assist in the fight against drug-related offenses.

This proactive approach by the Fiji Police underscores a commitment to maintaining community safety and reducing drug-related crime during a time when many may be celebrating. By involving the community in this effort, there is a hopeful outlook for a safer environment for all citizens during the festive season.
