A suspect is currently in police custody following an incident last night at the Nadonumai roundabout, where he was apprehended for allegedly possessing illegal drugs. During the arrest, the individual reportedly threatened a police officer.

Assisted by the K-9 Unit, authorities recovered a clear plastic wrapper and zip lock bags that contained materials identified as branches and leaves believed to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, highlighted that drug arrests are a routine occurrence and emphasized the Fiji Police Force’s heightened commitment to combatting drug-related issues, especially during the festive season.

“We are intensifying our efforts to hinder the distribution and transportation of illegal substances in the country. Our focus is on anyone suspected of drug-related activities. Throughout this festive period, we will be monitoring known drug locations and inspecting vehicles and vessels that may be involved,” ACP Driu stated.

He added, “We will continue conducting unannounced vehicle checks and assessing anyone we perceive to be suspicious. Our fight against drugs remains steadfast, and we encourage the public to support us in these efforts.”

This proactive approach by the police reflects a strong commitment to maintaining community safety and public health, especially during a time when festivities can often lead to an increase in illicit activities. By engaging the public in this fight, the Fiji Police Force is fostering a collaborative environment to combat drug issues head-on, highlighting the shared responsibility between law enforcement and the community.
