The HSBC Sevens World Series (SVNS) is set to captivate rugby fans this week as it rolls into Perth, Western Australia. The Australian women’s team is aiming to defend its title at its home event and secure a top position in the league standings.

Team captains gathered at Scarborough Beach yesterday to officially launch the HSBC SVNS Perth, embracing the sunny atmosphere in anticipation of a thrilling weekend of rugby sevens. As the competition intensifies following three rounds of the series, the Australian women’s team is gearing up for a strong performance, vying for victory against New Zealand, who currently lead the standings with 58 points—a slim two-point lead.

Australia’s female captain, Madison Ashby, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We love playing in Perth and the girls did a great job last year winning the title. Now we’re looking to go back-to-back. You can’t beat a home crowd, and we’re fortunate to be one of only a couple of nations to play on home soil each year.”

In the men’s competition, Australia’s team also seeks to make its mark, aiming to carry the momentum from their recent win over France in Singapore to maintain its position just behind New Zealand in the league standings. Captain Henry Hutchison remarked, “It’s nice to be back in Perth on home soil. We’re ready to put in a good performance in front of our local fans and family who are traveling from all parts of the country.”

The HSBC SVNS Series continues to elevate the rugby sevens experience by merging high-stakes sport with a vibrant festival atmosphere that includes music, food, and cultural festivities. HBF Park will host live entertainment, international DJs, and diverse culinary offerings, ensuring an unforgettable experience for fans attending from around the globe.

As excitement builds for the matches ahead, both the Australian women’s and men’s teams look forward to showcasing their skills and fighting for victory in front of their passionate home crowd.
