Beyond the headline

Sila Balawa, the General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP), has announced that the party is currently engaged in internal discussions regarding the status of Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya. This follows her dismissal from the cabinet last week due to the leak of an explicit video featuring her.

In a meeting that lasted over two hours, the PAP’s Executive Committee reviewed the situation and outlined the next steps. A disciplinary committee has been established to conduct a comprehensive investigation within the next 21 days, after which a report will be presented to the party management. Importantly, Tabuya will have the opportunity to present her case to the committee.

The six-member committee is committed to maintaining the integrity and privacy of its proceedings as it works independently through this sensitive matter.

This situation highlights the balance necessary in political environments between accountability and fairness. As the inquiry unfolds, there is potential for a constructive outcome that may allow for clearer protocols and support systems for party members in the future, ultimately strengthening party ethics and governance.
