Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel, alongside Fiji’s ambassador to the US, Ilisoni Vuidreketi, is participating in the two-day US-Pacific Investment Summit, which kicked off yesterday at the East-West Centre’s Auditorium in Honolulu, Hawai’i. This summit, themed “The Pacific Agenda: Investment, Security and Shared Prosperity,” is jointly hosted by US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command.
The gathering aims to bolster the economic strategies of the region while enhancing strategic ties with the United States. Pacific leaders are set to engage in substantive discussions with senior US government officials and private sector representatives, focusing on unlocking new investment avenues, enhancing economic collaboration, and boosting regional resilience.
During the summit, the chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) and Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Jeremiah Manele, addressed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of transparency, mutual respect, and a long-term commitment to foster impactful, people-centered development in the region. He articulated the sentiment that the prosperity of the Pacific will increasingly hinge not only on governmental efforts but also on the dynamism and resilience stemming from investments and collaboration in security and prosperity.
Additionally, ten journalists from Pacific islands are attending the summit, participating in the East-West Centre’s fellowship program, which aims to enhance media engagement in the region’s development discussions.
This summit presents a significant opportunity for Pacific nations to advance their economic agendas and build constructive partnerships, paving the way for a prosperous future in collaboration with the United States.
