Tui Namosi, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua, and Tui Nayau, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, have recently been appointed as Deputy Chairs of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC). This decision was announced by the current GCC Chair, Ratu Viliame Seruvakula, who emphasized the need for these positions to be filled by representatives from the other two confederacies, as the Kubuna Confederacy currently holds the Chairmanship.
Ratu Viliame noted that the inclusion of the new Deputies would significantly alleviate the responsibilities he faces, particularly as he resides in New Zealand. He conveyed the importance of their support in managing the numerous tasks and invitations that come with his role.
The appointment comes at a crucial time as discussions within the GCC have focused on enhancing the effectiveness of governance and addressing socio-economic challenges faced by the iTaukei community. Past articles have highlighted Ratu Suliano’s optimistic views on the GCC’s progress since its re-establishment last year, where he observed a positive transformation in member engagement and communication.
Ratu Suliano has remarked on the increasing vocal participation among council members, stating that current representatives are now more informed and assertive in discussions, which marks a significant change from the past. This fosters a more inclusive and dynamic environment, crucial for the collective decision-making process.
Additionally, the GCC has been focusing on legislative reviews impacting the iTaukei community, which reflects a proactive approach to governance. This positive evolution within the council suggests a hopeful future for the iTaukei people, as enhanced dialogue and cooperation can lead to meaningful advancements and solutions addressing their challenges.
Overall, the recent appointments signal a strategic move towards strengthening representation and collaborative efforts, promoting unity and growth within the community.
