Netball World Mourns the Loss of Kiti Bogidrau, a Pioneering Leader

The netball community is mourning the loss of Wainikiti Bogidrau, a revered administrator who passed away at the age of 56. Her extensive career in netball administration, which began over 20 years ago, included significant milestones like her presidency at Netball Fiji from 2010 to 2020 and her election to the World Netball Board as the Director representing the Oceania region in 2019.

World Netball paid tribute to Bogidrau, acknowledging her as an integral part of the netball family who fostered many meaningful friendships throughout her career. Reflecting on her contributions, they emphasized her crucial leadership roles that drove considerable advancements in netball both in Fiji and across the Oceania region.

Tributes have arrived from netball organizations around the globe, including heartfelt messages from unions in New Zealand, South Africa, Wales, Namibia, and Africa Netball, showcasing her wide-reaching influence. Netball Fiji highlighted her profound passion and infectious energy, which inspired many within the sport. In 2013, Bogidrau notably advocated for the Fiji national team to face tougher opponents to enhance their competitive edge.

In 2010, she also founded the “Friends of Netball” initiative, which successfully raised funds for the Fiji national team to participate in World Cup qualifiers. RubyAnn Sorovaki, the President of Netball Fiji, conveyed deep appreciation for Bogidrau’s contributions, expressing that her spirit would be dearly missed by all.

Beyond her accomplishments in netball, Bogidrau held notable positions, including one with the Fiji National Provident Fund, where she was admired for her vibrant dedication to community service and her family. Her passing has brought a wave of grief, highlighting the profound connections she built within her community.
