Netball Fiji is calling for the enhancement of local netball competitions this year to improve the sport’s overall performance. According to RubyAnn Sorovaki, the president of Netball Fiji, strengthening domestic tournaments is crucial for the proper selection of players for the national teams. She emphasized the importance of creating clear pathways from club competitions to national representation, which will ensure that high-quality games are hosted and played.
Sorovaki also highlighted the significance of grassroots development, stating that the federation intends to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to assist districts in their efforts to run games and build capacity among members. This approach aims to fortify the foundation of netball in the country and cultivate talent from the ground up.
Today, the Fiji Pearls extended squad will gather for regrouping and fitness tests at the HPU Gym in Laucala. A total of 56 players have been named in this extended squad, under the guidance of interim head coach Jioweli Vakamoce, marking an important step in the preparation for future competitions.
In summary, the focus on local competitions and grassroots development presents promising opportunities for the growth of netball in Fiji. This commitment can help identify new talent while reinforcing the sport’s foundation, ensuring a competitive edge on the international stage. As these initiatives unfold, the community can remain hopeful for a bright future for netball in Fiji.
