Fiji rugby player Joji Nasova is making a significant career move by signing a two-year contract with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua, slated to start in the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. Hailing from Toge, Ba, Nasova has enjoyed a prosperous tenure with the Fiji Airways men’s 7s team, recently emerging as the joint-top try-scorer in the HSBC SVNS World Series, with an impressive tally of 26 tries alongside Argentina’s Marcos Moneta.
The announcement of his new contract was met with enthusiasm from both Nasova and the Drua’s head coach, Glen Jackson. Nasova expressed his excitement and hope for a successful season ahead, saying, “I am very excited to be selected to be part of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua team ahead of next year’s competition.” Jackson shared that they are “massively excited” to welcome an athlete of Nasova’s caliber, emphasizing the potential impact he could have as he transitions from the sevens to the 15-a-side format.
Having made his international debut during the Hong Kong Sevens in the 2023/2024 season, Nasova’s rise in the sport has been marked by remarkable achievements. Aside from being recognized as part of the 2025 HSBC SVNS Men’s Dream Team, he also played a vital role in securing gold for Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.
This transition from sevens to 15s highlights a broader trend of rugby players successfully adapting their skills to different formats, as seen in other players like Ponipate Loganimasi, who also made a significant impact with the Drua. Nasova’s journey serves as an inspiration for young athletes, showcasing how dedication to the sport can pave the way for exciting opportunities, both personally and professionally.
As both Nasova and the Drua gear up for the upcoming season, there is a strong sense of optimism surrounding their potential for success on the international rugby stage. The fusion of his remarkable talent and the support from the Drua could set the stage for a bright future for both player and club.
