Naitasiri Secondary School’s under-17 rugby team is honing its focus on discipline as it prepares for the upcoming Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League Eastern Zone quarter-finals next weekend. The team recently achieved a convincing 28-4 victory over Lami High School at the Saint Marcelin Primary School grounds in Suva.
Head coach Sakiasi Muakalou stated that while the win was significant, discipline issues, which resulted in several yellow cards, need addressing. “We will be going back to the drawing board this week to focus on these areas, as we have a big game coming up,” he remarked. Despite being tested by a strong performance from Lami High School, Muakalou commended his players for their efforts and determination.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the parents who traveled to support the team, highlighting the essential role their encouragement plays in boosting the players’ morale.
The identity of Naitasiri’s quarter-final opponent has yet to be determined, but the team is looking forward to the competitive atmosphere of the Eastern Zone quarter-finals, which will be held at the same venue next weekend.
In the broader context of Fiji’s secondary school rugby, the spirit of competition fosters unity and community support, enhancing the players’ development and encouraging local talent. Naitasiri’s journey, like that of other schools such as Natabua High School, showcases the dedication and resilience of young athletes aiming for success in the sport. The upcoming matches provide an opportunity for these teams to shine, inspiring hope for continued progress and triumphs in their future endeavors.
