Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM) has successfully defended its titles in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions at the Suva Zone 1 athletics competition held at the HFC Bank Stadium. Over two days of competition, MGM showcased its athletic prowess, emerging victorious in a range of events.

In the boys’ division, MGM secured a total of 13 gold, seven silver, and three bronze medals, firmly establishing their dominance. Ratu Sukuna Memorial School followed in second place with eight gold, seven silver, and eight bronze medals, while Dudley High School took third with five gold, seven silver, and nine bronze medals.

The MGM girls’ team put forth an even more impressive display, amassing 35 gold medals, in addition to 23 silver and nine bronze. Ratu Sukuna Memorial School placed second in the girls’ division with eight gold, four silver, and six bronze, while Dudley High School finished third with two gold, three silver, and six bronze medals.

The atmosphere of camaraderie and sportsmanship was a highlight of the event, showcasing not only individual talent but also the community spirit among the schools involved. Such competitions are pivotal for nurturing young talent in athletics, offering students opportunities for personal growth and teamwork.

As the athletics season in Fiji progresses, it sets the stage for the upcoming National Championship Coca-Cola Games scheduled from April 24-26. This event is anticipated to feature a high level of talent and enthusiasm, further enriching the sports culture within schools and fostering a bright future for athletics in the region.
