The Fiji National Rugby League is mourning the loss of Mesake ‘Mes’ Ravonu, who passed away at the tender age of 22 after battling kidney disease. Ravonu, who left an indelible mark on the field, was a promising athlete with a bright future ahead of him.

He was a valued member of the 2023 Jersey Flegg premiership squad for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and proudly represented Fiji Bati, making his test debut in the 2023 Pacific Championship. Unfortunately, his career was abruptly halted in 2024 due to a diagnosis of chronic kidney disease, which forced him into early medical retirement.

Fiji Bati head coach Wise Kativerata expressed deep admiration for Ravonu, describing him as a true embodiment of the Fijian spirit. Despite facing numerous challenges, Ravonu’s resilience and positivity shone through, as he continued to uplift those around him with his infectious smile.

Ravonu’s legacy will live on, not only in the hearts of his teammates and fans but also as a reminder of the strength and tenacity that defines the sport. His story is one of courage in the face of adversity, inspiring many both on and off the field.
