The Blue Gas Lilian Amazon Women’s 7s team is gearing up for a challenging weekend as the two-day Fiji Bitter Yasawa 7s tournament begins today at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Having recently clinched victory at the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s in Ra, the Lilians know they will face significant obstacles in this competition.
Head coach Tirani Uluinakauvadra is optimistic about the team’s focus on development, even with some key players absent due to national duties. “We have a young group of girls representing our club,” Uluinakauvadra shared. “While many experienced players are away with the national sevens team, we remain committed to development.”
He further emphasized the importance of providing opportunities for young players. “We are currently nurturing this young group, and they will display their skills over the next two days,” he noted. Although the absence of key players presents challenges, Uluinakauvadra acknowledged the importance of prioritizing national representation.
The Lilians are placed in Pool B, where they will encounter formidable teams like Tagimoucia Ranadi and PC Kadavu Stallion, known for their resilience and strategic play. Meanwhile, Pool A will showcase intense matchups, with tournament favorites Wardens Women facing off against Ezers Women and Yasawa Saints. Wardens Women are anticipated to perform strongly, thanks to their solid track record and experienced roster, but Ezers Women and Yasawa Saints are determined to create some upsets.
