Fiji Airways men’s rugby sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau has announced his intention to prioritize family time this year. The 39-year-old, originally from Namuka-i-Lau, has been away from his family, who reside in the U.S., since he took on his coaching role in March of last year. Although his wife, Mere Tavu Fa, and their children frequently visit him in Fiji, Kolinisau is eager to create more time for his loved ones.

“I just want more family time, win the HSBC SVNS series, and just to be a better person than I was last year,” he expressed. Kolinisau, a gold medalist from the 2016 Olympics, is committed to personal growth and recognizes areas in his life for improvement.

Under his leadership, the Fiji men’s team achieved remarkable milestones, including winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games just four months after his tenure began. Additionally, he led the team to its first Cup title victory in Dubai last month, ending a long drought of 25 tournaments without a win.

Looking ahead, Kolinisau aims to sustain this momentum and ensure continued performance from the team, which currently leads the HSBC SVNS series standings with 36 points, followed closely by Spain and France. He also plans to enhance his coaching skills by learning from other experienced coaches.

This coming Saturday, Kolinisau will serve as an ambassador for the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, where he will announce the national team for the event. Subsequently, a team will be selected for the Perth 7s tournament scheduled for January 24-26.
