Fergus Gillion, a twenty-year-old midfielder for Bula FC, is thriving in his transition to the Fijian football scene. As one of the few foreign players on the team, the former New Zealand U20 representative has felt warmly embraced since his arrival.

In a video shared by Bula FC’s media team, Gillion discussed his preseason experience as the club gears up for the OFC pro-league. He described the intense training sessions, noting, “This morning was pretty hot in the sun. We had a pretty tough session; the body is still tough from last night, so it’s been tough trying to get through this one, but the boys are doing well. It’s been pretty intense.”

Alongside the challenge of training in the heat, Gillion has developed a taste for the local cuisine. He expressed his delight, sharing, “This is probably one of the best meals I’ve had so far; it’s like some stir fry noodles. But yesterday was a close second; we had chicken stew for lunch, which was pretty good.” He especially enjoys the tropical juice, saying it’s so delicious they often drink it from a bowl instead of a cup.

Growing up in a football-loving family, Gillion’s journey in the sport began in his backyard, competing against his siblings. His decision to join Bula FC was heavily supported by friends and family, who viewed it as a significant step up in his football career.

“I’m absolutely loving it at the moment,” Gillion stated. “It’s very hot, but we’re adjusting well, and the boys are very welcoming to me and the other players. It’s been really fun.” Gillion’s enthusiasm and adaptability in this new environment showcase his potential for growth both on and off the field as he embarks on this exciting chapter of his football journey.
