Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services Penioni Ravunawa has announced that the Kamikamica Health Centre will be temporarily closed for renovations. The decision follows citizens’ complaints about the center’s deteriorating waiting area, highlighting the community’s growing concerns regarding local healthcare facilities.
“The ministry is planning to temporarily close part of the Kamikamica Health Centre to carry out major renovation work,” stated Mr. Ravunawa. He emphasized that initial repairs will focus on urgent and critical issues to ensure the safety of patients utilizing the facility.
To manage the disruption during the renovation, necessary relocations of clinical care will take place within the health center. Mr. Ravunawa reassured that patients would continue to receive care during this period, particularly by making arrangements for clinical operations to ensure that patient needs are met despite the closure.
This development is part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Health to enhance healthcare infrastructure across Fiji. Similar initiatives, like those at the Navua Hospital and Labasa Hospital, have shown a commitment to addressing the shortcomings in healthcare facilities nationwide. For instance, Navua Hospital is undergoing essential maintenance that includes significant rewiring work, preceded by residents’ concerns over similar infrastructure issues.
These proactive steps signify a positive direction for healthcare services, as improvements not only aim to alleviate current challenges but also reflect a broader commitment to enhancing the quality of care provided to the community. The community’s engagement and support are critical to fostering a resilient healthcare future in Fiji.
