The atmosphere at Namaka Public School was filled with excitement as over 1,000 students welcomed the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players, Kemu Valetini and Isikeli Rabitu. Their visit was part of the Anchor Club Event, designed to connect professional rugby players with aspiring athletes, aiming to inspire the youth through sports.

During the event, Valetini and Rabitu engaged with both students and teachers and hosted rugby clinics for the school’s boys’ and girls’ kaji rugby teams. The players took the opportunity to share their experiences and offer valuable insights into the game, allowing young athletes to learn new skills and ask questions. Valetini expressed how fulfilling the experience was for him, stating, “It’s always a delight to see the smiles on their faces.”

The visit emphasized the importance of creating awareness about pathways in rugby. Valetini highlighted how such programs provide motivation and remind students that with dedication and hard work, they too could aspire to wear the Drua jersey one day. He expressed hope for more events throughout the year, thus fostering a spirit of ambition among young players.

This visit aligns with the Drua’s previous community engagements where other schools, like Marist Brothers, experienced similar enthusiasm and inspiration. Players shared messages about discipline, sacrifice, and the potential within each student to achieve great heights, exemplified by alumni like Aisea Tuisese, who now plays for the Drua.

Community initiatives like these play a significant role in nurturing future sports talent and reinforcing the value of hard work and determination. As students interact with their idols, they not only develop a passion for rugby but also cultivate essential life skills that apply on and off the field. Such engagements serve as a reminder of the positive influence professional athletes can have in inspiring the next generation.

Overall, the excitement at Namaka Public School reflects a hopeful narrative where young athletes are inspired to pursue their dreams, fostering a brighter future for rugby in Fiji.
