The strong educational and cultural ties between India and Fiji were celebrated at a vibrant event held last night at the Suva Civic Centre. This gathering recognized Fijian alumni who benefited from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship programs and are now actively contributing to the development of the nation across various sectors.
Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Sumeet Mehta, reflected on the substantial success of the ICCR program, emphasizing the impactful roles that its alumni play in Fijian society. “The impact of ICCR alumni in Fiji is significant; many have excelled in various fields, including education, governance, and cultural preservation. Several alumni have distinguished themselves in prestigious careers, such as members of parliament, senior government officials, journalists, lawyers, business leaders, and more,” he stated.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs Charan Jeeth Singh pointed out the essential role of education in enhancing connections between people and promoting long-lasting cooperation between India and Fiji. He noted, “This relationship continues to deepen and strengthen, which is clearly reflected in the frequency and quality of high-level engagements between our two countries.”
The Indian High Commission reiterated its commitment to fostering collaboration, emphasizing the importance of cultural diplomacy and education in building mutual understanding and respect between India and Fiji. This ongoing partnership not only enriches the lives of individuals but also fortifies the bond between the two nations, highlighting a shared vision for future cooperation and development.
