The HSBC Sevens World Series (SVNS) shifts its focus to Perth this week, welcoming the world’s elite rugby sevens teams to Western Australia. The excitement is palpable as team captains gathered at Scarborough Beach on Tuesday to kick off the HSBC SVNS Perth, enjoying the sunny weather in anticipation of a highly competitive weekend.

As the series progresses through its fourth round, the battle for top rankings is intensifying. In the women’s category, New Zealand currently leads with 58 points, holding a slim two-point edge over their closest competitors. Australia, the defending champions, are eager to showcase their prowess on home turf and reclaim the title amidst passionate local support.

On the men’s side, following a hard-fought victory against France in the finals of the Singapore leg last week, the Flying Fijians are determined to sustain their winning momentum and secure their position atop the standings, with New Zealand hot on their heels.

Madison Ashby, captain of the Australian women’s team, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We love playing in Perth, and the girls did a great job last year winning the title. Now we’re looking to go back-to-back. You can’t beat a home crowd, and we’re fortunate to be one of only a couple of nations to play on home soil each year.”

Similarly, Henry Hutchison, captain of the Australian men’s team, highlighted the significance of playing in front of local fans, saying, “It’s nice to be back in Perth on home soil. We’re ready to put in a good performance in front of our local fans and family who are travelling from all parts of the country. We were pleased with how we played on the second day in Singapore and want to carry that momentum into this weekend.”

The HSBC SVNS Series continues to innovate the rugby experience, blending high-paced competition with a vibrant festival atmosphere. This year’s event at HBF Park will not only feature thrilling matches but also live entertainment, international DJs, and a variety of food and beverage experiences, ensuring an unforgettable outing for fans from around the globe.

The HSBC SVNS Perth event is scheduled to take place at HBF Park on February 7-8, 2026, promising a weekend full of excitement and celebration for rugby fans.
