Schools run by Hindu organizations across the nation were vibrant with color and joy yesterday as students and teachers celebrated Holi. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and music, as participants engaged in the traditional practice of throwing colored powders, which symbolizes joy, unity, and the victory of good over evil.
Festivities included cultural performances, chautaal singing, and dance displays, all organized to honor this important occasion. School leaders emphasized that the celebrations offered students a chance to understand the cultural and religious significance of Holi, while also promoting the values of harmony and togetherness amongst diverse communities.
Teachers pointed out that, beyond the festive spirit, Holi conveys significant themes of forgiveness, renewal, and the strengthening of friendships. The celebrations wrapped up with light refreshments, with many schools highlighting the necessity of respecting cultural traditions and fostering inclusivity and understanding among students from all backgrounds.
As the celebrations continue, schools managed by Hindu organizations will remain closed today as Hindus in Fiji and around the world partake in the joyful festivities of this colorful festival. This year’s Holi not only brought joy to the students but also reinforced the message of unity and togetherness that the festival embodies.
