Heavy Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Across Fiji with Flash Flood Risks

Weather Update (In case you haven’t noticed the clouds above!)

Issued by your friendly neighborhood National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 10:45 am on Thursday, March 27th, 2025. Buckle up for some breezy news!

The Situation: Picture a sluggish trough of low pressure taking a leisurely stroll over the eastern parts of our beautiful country. This uninvited guest is bringing along its trusty friends – clouds and showers – and they plan to hang around for the next few days. So maybe it’s time to bring out that umbrella that you bought last summer but haven’t used yet!

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:

Prepare yourself for a splashy day! Expect occasional showers and a few thunderstorms crashing the party over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, and those nearby smaller islands, not to forget Lau and Lomaiviti. It seems these showers might just decide to turn up the volume and morph into rain this evening and overnight—perfect for those cuddly couch moments!

Elsewhere, the weather looks slightly better, mostly fine with just the occasional afternoon or evening shower popping up uninvited.

And speaking of excitement, keep your eyes peeled for afternoon or evening thunderstorms with some impressive heavy falls over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Just a friendly reminder: heavy falls can sometimes lead to flash floods, so keep your raincoat and floaties ready if you’re in low-lying or flood-prone areas!

Winds will be moderate to fresh, and guess what? They might get gusty when the sky decides to throw a ruckus during those thunderstorms. Seas? They’ll be moderate to rough – so hold on to your hats if you’re heading out!

Outlook for Saturday: Looks like those clouds have booked another staycation! We can expect more occasional showers and a few thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls over the eastern half of Viti Levu. Showers will likely escalate into full-blown rain in the evening or overnight—perfect weather for indoor Netflix marathons!

For specific areas:

– **Navua / Suva / Nausori**: Expect occasional showers and some thunderous drama in the afternoons/evenings. Those showers may just decide to escalate into rain overnight.

– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba**: Expect a fine day with just a sprinkle of afternoon or evening showers. Thunderstorms are on the agenda, so brace for those dramatic downpours!

– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast, Tavua/Rakiraki, Yasawa/Mamanuca**: Sunny spells interrupted by the usual afternoon showers and the possibility of boisterous thunderstorms later in the evening.

– **Labasa**: Fine for now but get ready for those scattered showers and some thunderous events during the afternoon and evening!

– **Savusavu**: A bit more theatrical with occasional showers and thunderstorms! Grab your rainboots as showers might turn into rain overnight.

– **Lau/Lomaiviti & Kadavu**: Expect a similar performance—occasional showers and thunderstorms heading your way, and yes, rain later in the evening.

– **Rotuma**: Watching clouds drift by with occasional showers and some lightning for added entertainment. Those easterly winds are adding a touch of drama too!

So, keep those umbrellas close and your spirits high, because whether it’s a little drizzle or a thunderous downpour, we’ve got a weather show over Fiji, and it’s bound to keep things interesting!
