Heavy Rain Alert for Fiji: Thunderstorms and Rough Seas Expected

Weather Update Alert!

Brought to you from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 3:30 PM, Thursday, June 5, 2025.

Grab your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in effect for most of the Fiji group, so if you thought the beach would be a great idea today, you might want to rethink that while you enjoy some indoor activities.

What’s happening? A mischievous trough of low pressure has decided to roll in from the west, bringing along its entourage of clouds and rain. It’s like the sky is throwing a party, and everybody’s invited—except for the sun, poor fellow!

Forecast until midnight tomorrow includes:

– Occasional rain, heavy enough to make you think twice about that outdoor picnic, and squally thunderstorms looking to crash the party over most areas.
– Expect moderate to gusty north to northwest winds, perfect for flying kites—if you don’t mind them getting drenched!
– Seas will be moderately rough; it’s probably best to give that boat ride a rest.

Looking ahead to Saturday: More of the same! Occasional rain and a few thunderstorms will hover like uninvited guests over Lau and Lomaiviti. But fear not! The rain will ease up later for a quick shower before the clouds decide to take a break.

For specific areas:
– **Navua / Suva / Nausori:** Expect occasional downpours and the chance of a thunderstorm making an entrance.
– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast:** Hold on to your flip-flops; heavy rain and a few boomers are expected, but sunshine will make a return on Saturday!
– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:** More of the same rainy business today, but good news—fine weather is in the forecast for Saturday!
– **For the Yasawa/Mamanuca group and Labasa:** Get ready for heavy rain and those pesky thunderstorms, although Saturday promises improved cheer with fine weather.

And finally, for our friends over in Rotuma, there’s a STRONG WIND WARNING in effect—so no kite flying today! Expect rough seas and gusty easterly winds.

So, stay safe, keep your hair dry, and maybe finally tackle that book you’ve been meaning to read. Happy weathering!
