Local artist Viliame Navoka, affectionately known as Vly, once again showcased his commitment to community service by donating a new set of beddings to the Feedmysheep Miriam Grace Home in Naikabula, Lautoka. This act of kindness took place on Friday, following a prior visit where Vly assessed the living conditions of the home’s 15 residents.
During his visit, Vly interacted with Emily Qio, the home’s founder and a single mother of six, who passionately works to support those in need. Vly learned about the shelter’s challenges and took initiative after a friend, Temesia Tuicaumia, highlighted the need for assistance through social media. His call for help resonated with many, resulting in substantial donations, including a significant contribution of $1500 from former Women Minister Lynda Tabua’s foundation.
Vly expressed gratitude for the support received, emphasizing the necessity of warmth and comfort for the residents, especially during the colder months. “I think, for me personally, I am content with what I have and at least to realize there are people in need around us, and we should help in any way we can,” he stated.
Encouraging community involvement, Vly praised Qio’s dedication to providing a safe haven for the homeless. He noted that her work is challenging but essential in creating a nurturing environment for those who have faced hardships.
The spirit of generosity shared by Vly ties in beautifully with the recent Christmas celebrations at the same shelter, where individuals experiencing homelessness found warmth and nourishment despite adverse weather conditions. Qio emphasized Christmas as a time for compassion and inclusivity, serving around 80 individuals with meals made possible by generous donors.
In a broader context, these actions highlight the importance of community support and compassion, especially for vulnerable populations. From the heartfelt efforts of local artists like Vly to the ongoing work of dedicated individuals like Qio, it’s clear that acts of kindness can significantly uplift spirits, promote hope, and instill a sense of belonging in those facing adversity.
The narrative serves as a reminder that, together, communities can rise to support each other through acts of love and care, turning challenges into opportunities for compassion and change.
