Non-essential government services will be temporarily suspended on December 27, December 30, and December 31, 2024, in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Service Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized that essential services will continue to operate with proper staffing to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

Although there will be a significant reduction in staff during this holiday period, the focus remains on maintaining scheduled essential services. This break offers civil servants a chance to enjoy quality time with their families and loved ones.

Rabuka urged Permanent Secretaries to encourage staff to take their leave during this closure period. He also mentioned that it is at the discretion of Permanent Secretaries to decide if a skeleton crew is necessary to maintain certain services during this time.

In his role as Minister Responsible for Civil Service, Rabuka expressed his gratitude for the hard work and contributions made by civil servants throughout the year. He extended his best wishes for a peaceful and joyous Christmas, along with a prosperous New Year for them and their families.

This announcement not only highlights the importance of balancing work and family time but also recognizes the dedication of civil servants. Such practices enhance employee well-being, fostering a more content and productive workforce in the long run. As the year closes, there is a hopeful outlook for renewed energy and commitment in serving the community in the coming year.
