Fiji 7s player Sevuloni Mocenacagi embodies the belief that one’s past does not dictate their future. Despite facing significant setbacks, including not being selected for the 2016 Rio Olympics and enduring a lengthy 12-match suspension after an incident with a referee in 2021, he remained resilient and dedicated to his sport.
Mocenacagi’s banned status initially cost him participation in the 2021 Olympic Games but he did not allow these challenges to deter him. Instead, he seized an opportunity to continue his career by signing with the French Pro D2 Club USON Nevers as a medical replacement. His perseverance eventually led to a successful return to rugby, and he is now a critical player under coach Osea Kolinisau.
This year, Mocenacagi proudly earned a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, contributing to Fiji’s remarkable performance in the HSBC SVNS 2025 Series. His commitment did not go unnoticed, with Yamacia Rugby Club acknowledging his unwavering passion for the sport and his enduring contributions to Fiji Rugby over the years, despite missing two Olympic appearances.
Just last week, Mocenacagi was part of the historic Fiji team that ended a nine-year drought by winning the Dubai 7s, marking a triumphant return to the top of the sport. His journey serves as an inspiration, highlighting the importance of resilience and the power of not giving up, no matter the obstacles faced.
This remarkable turnaround in Mocenacagi’s career exemplifies hope and positivity, showcasing that with hard work and determination, it is possible to overcome adversity and achieve great success.
