The government-owned Food Processors Fiji Ltd (FPFL) is setting its sights on an ambitious profit target of over half a million dollars for the financial year 2025, a significant milestone in its journey toward profitability. The company had faced challenges in the past, reporting a net loss of $515,959 in 2019. However, under new management and driven by strategic initiatives, FPFL has made remarkable progress, displaying a consistent upward trajectory in profits: from $569,838 in 2020 to $502,322 in 2024.
Recently, FPFL inaugurated a $1.2 million modernized facility in Suva, which has tripled its production capacity from two to six tonnes. This upgrade has resulted in a boost in agricultural output, increasing from 500 tonnes to 1,500 tonnes annually, leading to improved economic opportunities and potential job creation. FPFL’s Chairman, Raj Sharma, emphasized the transformative impact of this development on both production and the local economy.
Furthermore, FPFL is expanding its export markets, which currently include New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Canada, and the UK. The company is also exploring entry into the UAE market with support from various government ministries. The growth in sales revenues from $2.7 million in 2019 to $6.5 million in 2024 reflects remarkable revenue growth exceeding 30% compared to the prior year.
Despite these achievements, Sharma acknowledged ongoing challenges such as aging infrastructure and logistical issues that could impact production. Nevertheless, FPFL remains committed to innovation and governance improvements, aiming for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications to enhance operational standards while prioritizing environmental protection and employee welfare.
The positive trajectory of FPFL not only signals a recovery but also demonstrates the company’s potential for sustainable growth and increased contributions to Fiji’s economy. With these proactive measures and ongoing commitment to progress, FPFL is poised to emerge as a thriving entity, aligned with broader economic development goals.
