Schools in the Western Division will stay closed indefinitely due to persistent flooding and hazardous road conditions. The decision was confirmed by Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro, in coordination with the National Disaster Risk Management Office and other relevant agencies, following feedback from Divisional Education Officers.
Meanwhile, schools in the Northern, Eastern, and Central Divisions will proceed with regular operations. Parents and guardians are advised that the final decision regarding their children’s attendance rests with them, especially for those residing in flood-prone areas where travel routes may still pose risks.
Officials are stressing the importance of safety, urging parents to prevent their children from attempting to cross flooded roads, creeks, or rivers, and to stay informed through official weather updates.
School leaders have been instructed to maintain effective communication with Management Committees and District Education Offices while also evaluating the state of school facilities and grounds before deciding to resume normal activities.
The Ministry emphasizes that prioritizing the safety of students, teachers, and their families is paramount. They are committed to providing further updates as the situation evolves, demonstrating a proactive approach to managing the impacts of the flooding. This commitment reflects a broader dedication to community safety and well-being during challenging circumstances.
